“He is also head of the body, the Church …” (Col 1:18).
The history of the Church dates back to the time of Jesus Christ and despite all attempts to wipe it out, it’s growing in popularity, strength and number (Matthew 16:18). The Church broadly is the assembly of Bible-believing and practising Christians (Col 4:15). It is not a physical structure like a Cathedral or temple or Synagogue, but the people. The Church can be subdivided into two – the triumphant ones and the militants. The former represents the saints that died in Christ and are now in glory, while those of us who are still living are the militant ones.
While God looks for and choose someone to lead His people; such a man or woman of God should not make a mistake of assuming ownership of the Church, even if your money and other resources were used to start the movement. Man of God (MOG) and Woman of God (WOG), remember that you are just an earthen vessel with the grace of God upon you to deliver His message to certain group of people. God could as well use another individual in your stead.
MOG/WOG, refrain from contesting the ownership of that ministry with your maker; otherwise Ichabod will happen and you will be on your own. Let the case of King Saul and Nebuchadnezzar be sufficient lesson for you. Learn to never share of God’s glory and stop encouraging your innocent members to attach the moves of God to your astuteness and ability to pray.
Jesus is the head of the Church, we are His under-shepherds and no one can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven (John 3:27). If we acknowledge Him as the owner and director of His Church, we will see the repeat of the power of the Cross which includes rebuke of sins (as in the time of Peter in his encounter with Ananias and Sapphira), genuine conversation of souls, the fear of God and true respect bestow on the Church by the government.
