“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham…..” (Genesis 22:1-2)

A set-up in this context is a test to ascertain the genuineness of Abraham’s commitment to serving the Jehovah God. In the world, when an individual finds himself in a set-up, the objective most often is to see to his downfall, but the reverse is the case when it involves God (Jeremiah 29:11).

Abraham was a wealthy person, but his status was enhanced by the blessing of a son in his old age – Isaac. Isaac was the heir apparent and the covenant son of Abraham who is to inherit all his wealth; but one day, God asked Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac to Him. He obeyed and the teenage, energetic sacrificial lamb (Isaac) followed his father like a “sheep”.

The encounter of Prophet Elijah with the widow of Zarephath in (I Kings 17:7-16) was also a set-up with the eternal purpose of glorifying the name of God and trigger the faith of the young ones in the Lord in a positive trajectory direction.

Job experienced hardship of an unimaginable proportion – everything he laboured for was gone in a single day. But when God stepped in, Job’s life was ten times enriched. When favour overtakes labour, your life is put on auto pilot and former pains and tears is forgotten (Job 42:12-13).

How then can I know that what I am passing through now is a divine set-up for a greater, better tomorrow? Check these up:

-Make sure you’re not suffering as a repercussion of an un-repented sin or disobedience to God’s instruction.
-God is always interested in your good health, victorious living and advancement (III John vs 2). He is a loving Father. If He gives an instruction and you obey Him fully, you’ll be a candidate for miracles.
-Be meticulous in following trend of events as you engage in walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).

Romans 8:28 says” For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God….Even if the devil meant to derail and frustrate you, if you’re a covenant child, God will use the seemingly perfect plan of evil to fast-track your promotion to the top (Remember Joseph’s story in Genesis 37 -41. Therefore whatever you’re passing through or is passing through you now as a child of God, it’s a set up for your ultimate glory.
