‘…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart…’ (Acts 13:22).
It was time for a new king to be enthroned in Israel after Saul disobeyed God. Samuel was led by God to the household of Jesse to anoint the next king. I reckoned all the eligible and potential candidates would have rehearsed probable questions that will be asked and made themselves ready to pass other eligibility tests. But David’s name (the last born among the boys then) was not on the list; so the flocks were kept in his charge on that day.
All the so called eligible brothers failed the tests; and David was brought into the scene, peradventure he may be the chosen one. Unexpectedly, as soon as he appeared, Samuel took the flask of oil he brought and anointed him the next king of Israel (I Samuel 16:13).
If you remain faithful (in your business, secular, ministerial and community assignments), God has a way of lifting you up in the midst of those whose plan is to pull you down. However be prepared for regular challenges like Joseph experienced in Genesis 37.
The challenges and oppositions will arise mostly from your “brothers and sisters” majorly because of jealousy or self-preservation as they like to keep you in your place (below them). Forgetting that you have different destinies to fulfill. Be prepared also for a dose of rejection, especially when there’s no evidence to prove your God-given dream. God put this message across your way today as warnings for you as journey through this New Year (I Cor 10:11).
