There are inherent habits and attitudes in a man’s life that if not spiritually handled, can dement a glorious ministry and destroy a destiny at a critical moment of his life. We have a lot of example of people that have fallen from pedestal of honours because they failed to tame their strongholds and this covers all sectors of life.

Apostle Paul gave a good counsel in this area in II Cor 10:4-5: ‘Pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.’

Strongholds are areas of your life that are held in grip of the enemy of your life. You need to be aware that you are at constant war with the flesh; who is number one enemy of your life. As a new creature in Christ, your old character will constantly try to re-establish control over you. Do not allow it. So long as it reigns in your life, Christ’s seat is taken. If it is on the throne, Christ is still on the cross. Rather put Christ on the throne and your past on the cross.

Bad thoughts are thinking that doesn’t line up with God’s Word or submit to the rule of Christ in your new life. In the Old Testament, a priest is not allowed to come into God’s presence if he had touched any unclean thing (Lev 22: 3-4). In order to walk with God, you must be prepared to bury your old lifestyle and forgive those who hurt you, including yourself and move on (charge it to God’s account). The ingredients for this exercise are the Word of God (John 17:17, Rev 12:11), the blood of the Lamb and sometimes by denying oneself of physical things of pleasure – fasting (Mark 9:29).
