“Who shall ascend to the hill of the Lord?…….” (Psalm 24:3 – 4)
Everybody wants to hear from God but many find it challenging to go through the right channel. Interestingly God is always eager to speak with human beings; after all He is the father of all creation. In an attempt to hear and know God’s will, countless number have developed all manner of ways to achieve their aim. Some through various elements such as the worship of the Sun, Moon, Stars, animals, carved woods and other prayer contractors (I Kings 19:11-12).
Rather than been curious to know why and when God stops speaking, it is safe to ponder on: what makes man to stop hearing from God? Attempt to provide answer to this important question will lead us to ponder on who God is? God is holy and no one can approach Him with filthy garment and detestable heart. No human righteousness can qualify an entry into His court, except through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.
Any moment a child of God breaks God’s law, he automatically creates a barrier between himself and God. Though God keeps on speaking, but his capacity to hear is broken until reconciliation process has taken place. Sin is the breaking of God’s laws and has the potential to deny one of God’s unflinching support (Isaiah 59:1-2). Psalm 23:3 – 4 chronicle the requirements to ascend to God’s holy hill and to stand in His holy place. You do not need any other mediator or solicitor other than the man Jesus Christ.
It’s exciting to note that God is still speaking to human race but few hear Him clearly while majority cannot but are prepared to do what it takes (palm reading, consulting the psychics, reading of stars, speaking with the dead, the use of prayer contractors, the work of false prophets etc) to reach God.
Psalm 145:18 says: ‘the Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call out to Him in truth’. If you call on Him through Jesus Christ, He will come into your heart and establish a beautiful relationship with you with an unbroken and robust channel of communication (Rev 3:20).
