“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly…..” (I Thess. 5:23).

The Christian journey is a progressive one as Paul admonished that we need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12); it becomes clear that a believer need to build upon his salvation until he becomes perfect in Christ.

The spiritual work of cleansing in a believer’s life is done by God Himself and He does this by working from the inside out. Imagine a kleptomaniac who cannot stop stealing stuff. Handcuffing and taking him to jail might temporarily stop him from stealing but he’ll still be a thief inside. In essence, the issue with such an individual isn’t with the hands, it’s with the mind and spirit.

Sizeable number of Christians want to get victory over bodily sins without being prepared to allow our minds to pass through the crucible fire of sanctification which simply mean being transformed inside. Such an attempt is tantamount to reinventing the Mosaic law. But Jesus has changed all that; and has fulfilled God’s promise – ‘…I will put my law in their inward parts… (Jere 31:33). God starts with our spirit because that’s the part of our being that makes us aware of, and connects with Him.

When God liberates our spirit through the power of His word backed up by His Spirit, our physical actions start to fall in line. It is a known truth in that ‘… the good that you would, you do not, but the evil which you would not, that you do’ (Rom 7:19). The way out of this is to ask the Holy Spirit to change you through and through today.
