“… and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof” (Romans 13:14).
Victorious Christian living is not optional for any believer. It cannot be achieved by following human principles or through some man – made disciplinary actions; but by relying on Biblical guidelines through work of faith. According to the Word of God, you will be on your way to victorious living if:
- You give yourself to studying and meditating on the Bible. Three separate times Satan tempted Jesus, but each time Jesus responded, “It is written”. It was after the third time that Satan left Him for a while because he could not prevail on Him. Satan will not be able to prevail over you too when you know God’s Word and stand on it. Have your ‘It is written’ ready. Build yourself up on the Word of God before the attack comes and you shall be victorious.
- Develop the habit of talking to God. Talking to God is a habit of praying to Him and you shield yourself from all fiery darts of Satan when you do so because God will become your shield and buckler (Psalm 91:4). Remember that the most effective weapon the evil one has against you is ‘you’. Your old nature needs to be crucified daily and prayer is how you do that.
- You need to be ready to burn your bridges. Any bridge to the past that you refuse to burn gives Satan a legal right of re-entry. The new believers in Ephesus brought out all their old books of witchcraft and pornography and burned them in the town square (Acts 19:19). Does this sound extreme to you? Apostle Paul admonished that we should make no provision for the flesh (Romans 13:14). In essence, be ruthless with yourself. If you give Satan a toehold, he will turn it into a stranglehold. Always remember that change is inevitable but growth is optional. If you don’t say goodbye to Egypt, you will never make it to the Promised Land.
